  1. The patterns of the feathers are so beautiful, and the composition of your close-in photograph encourages their contemplation. I keep wondering whether you were able to get so close because the bird was—uh—no longer living. Say it wasn’t so.

    • Thanks, Linda. No animals were harmed in the making of these photos. This duck lives, with at least two other ducks, at the Lamberton Conservatory in Rochester. They have a little pond to swim in and they are rather fond of people. This one was resting inches from the path I was on and allowed me to shot (I mean photograph) him. I’ve always been fond of the color and texture of their feathers but this is really the first time I was able to capture them.
